nothingness/saltwater is a project based on the experience of visiting the Salton Sea in southern California, and readings from The Drowned World, by JG Ballard. It presents a contemplative space of a ruined ecology within the neglected space of a newly-constructed sterile, controlled, and specious building here in Montreal.

This is site-specific in that is based on attention to existing architectural syntax – the use of space- with an attunement to the dysfunctional or derelict in the margins of our inhabited buildings.  It is here that the cycles of building, growth and decay become apparent, enabling glimpses of possible futures, as our familiar architectures often exist far beyond their intended use and our lifespans.
